Let there be light!

Light in artwork is key. It creates atmospheric backgrounds and helps fabricate mood.

Therefore it was vital that I add a glow to my Blender project.

Until now, I had been more focused on creating the overall structure of my house. This in itself was a challenge as I was a bit slow to learn all the shortkeys and extensions of Blender.

In my previous post I listed several of the functions of Blender but to make the overall outcome even more spectacular, one has to be familar with more complicated functions of Blender.

New things I learned

In the process of making my house, I made a candy cane. This was difficult as I learned how to use modifiers.

The image above is the finished candy cane product. To make this candycane, I had to use simple deform. This allows users to deform the object on the x,y,z axis. I used extend to extend a 12 pixel circle and used a bezier curve to finish the well known edge shape.

I also learned how to use light(how to make things appear glowy) and how to color objects .

There are lights in blender and one can make multiple of them. I made quick work of this function, placing lights appropriately.

Colors can look very overwhelming but it is far from that. Using material properties one can adjust the base color to a preferred shade.

There are 4 shading modes in Blender. Solid display is used for simple constructing and material preview display mode is for coloring. Rendered display is for looking at the final product.
